Today, we conclude serialization of the collected version of the three-issue 2017 miniseries Empowered and the Soldier of Love, written and laid out by me and featuring full-color artwork by the Chilean webcomic artist Karla Diaz.
As noted earlier, this webcomic posting of Soldier of Love caused me to reevaluate the character for the first time in almost a decade, leading to a new miniseries proposal I'm currently working up. I should say that El Soldado won't be quite as abrasive and effectively villainous in the new project—in fact, circumstances have forced her into more of a semi-heroic role—but I'm still interested by the prospect of writing a character who's much more of an "antiheroine" than any of the protagonists I've written in the last few decades (ouch).
Tomorrow, we kick off serialization of the somewhat random 2015 one-shot Empowered: Pew Pew Pew!, meaning that you will enjoy(?) a brief return of Emp material drawn as well as written by me before we move on to a much longer Guest Artist miniseries.
Today’s Patreon update: Originally done as a means of scratching out more worktime to complete the long-gestating Empowered vol. 12, I've switched over to a Monday/ Wednesday/ Friday Patreon posting schedule that won't feature the fixed content format I previously used. However, my vast archive of years of Patreon posts—extensive Empowered previews, work-in-progress updates on developmental projects such as fantasy comics The Chaste and the Chained and The Last Party, vintage con sketches, work stages on covers, "damsel in distress" commissions, life drawings & much, much more—remains available for Patrons' perusal.
